This story is taken from the old fairytale “The Princess and the Frog” or sometimes called “The Frog Prince”. The story has been around for many centuries and has been re-written by various authors, most notably by the Brothers Grimm, with slightly different plot lines each time.
Even though the story is old, Disney made Princess Tiana is a modern day princess relatively speaking. This princess lives in New Orleans in the 1920′s.
Princess Tiana is a role model for young girls today. She is the first African American princess from Disney and she has dreams for her life other than just marrying a prince.
The Disney movie looks almost vintage as it’s not computer generated but hand drawn. It comes across as a Broadway musical.
In the movie, Princess Tiana is a waitress who dreams of becoming a chef and owning a restaurant. She kisses a frog and instead of him turning into a prince, she turns into a frog too. To remedy her situation, she must trek into a dark bayou to get a cure from a voodoo queen. This voodoo queen is a good one. Her sidekicks are an alligator who plays the trumpet and a silly toothless lightening bug.
As all Disney fairytales go, we know this one will eventually have a happy ending. The frogs turn back to humans and the original frog turns out to be Prince Naveen. The two marry and live happily ever after but that’s not the end to this fairytale. Tiana’s dreams are fulfilled when they buy a restaurant together and run it as a husband and wife team.
Princess Tiana is played by Anika Noni Rose (of Dreamgirls fame) and hunky Bruno Campos as Prince Naveen. A few big name voices such as Oprah Winfrey and John Goodman also contribute to this film.
As Anika Noni Rose says, “the main point of this film is to hold on to your dreams.” What a great message for today’s children (and adults too). This princess is a great role model for girls and any girl will love wearing a Princess Tiana costume for Halloween or a Princess Party.

You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your handsome prince…that’s another good message about perseverance but looking at this pretty costume, I’m sure the wearer will have many handsome suitors knocking at her door.

The green color in the costumes at the top of this page are just gorgeous. And I about fell out of my chair when I saw the guy in the frog outfit. Too funny. And the doggie is cute too!!
the princess tiana costume is nice but the frog looks so funny maybe just add more on frog to make it looks good …but i like them both.

My little girl loved that movie so I knwo she’d look so pretty in that costume! I wonder how much it is, it might be cheaper to make. But then if I made one it might not look as sweet as that one in the picture does.
